Sometimes I think there's too much debate going on right now.
Debates that comes to an end result whether I'm wrong or you're wrong.
I think a debate is perfectly fine, I LOVE political debate, interfaith dialogues, or any kind of debate that comes with respect.
But when a debate brought our attention to a bigger problem than it supposed to be, that makes the debate a HUGE problem.
And a debate that leaves us hanging with more problems than solutions is highly recommended to be avoided.
That's my humble opinion, a justice lover.
Paraphrasing an excerpt from a story in a book I recently read,
When you're provoked with something said from a person (intending to get you into a debate without a reasonable reason),
Choose an option that will leave both sides unhurt.
Use wise, words with hikmah to counter the provocation. (Or in my case, silence can be an eloquent reply too)
Winning a debate won't be a success, if it hurts a relationship.
Bottomline is, when you're in a position to make a decision involving a debate between two or many sides, consult the heart first because the heart is where iman is contained, love is contained, knowledge is contained and is the source of Allah's Light.
A heart that's full of iman and knowledge will be guided by Allah's Haqq to make the best judgment inshaAllah.
Allahua'lam
